In 1963, Konda Laxman Bapuji, a freedom fighter, Telangana activist, and key figure in the Telangana Rebellion, famously criticized the Sanjeeva Reddy ministry, stating, "Andhra Government, seem to be a Government of the Reddys, for the Reddys and by the Reddys!" Bapuji dedicated his life to Telangana's statehood, even resigning from his ministerial post in 1969 to support the Telangana Agitation.
Today, similar concerns are being raised about the current Congress government in Telangana, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. The parallels with Bapuji's criticism are striking.
From Kolar to Hyderabad: A Familiar Narrative
During the Karnataka Assembly Elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi advocated for representation based on population, stating, "Jiski jitni sankhya bhari, uski utni hissedari" (To every community, more the numbers, the greater the share). However, in Telangana, the Congress's promises to the Backward Classes seem to have been forgotten. Despite promising two assembly tickets per parliamentary seat (34 total), only 20 were allocated, with 4 in areas influenced by Owaisi.
Following their victory, Revanth Reddy became Chief Minister, and his government is now being accused of being a "Government by the Reddy, For the Reddy and By the Reddy." Reddy dominance is evident across various government positions.
