Feb 23, 2025 — A growing movement among Backward Classes (BCs) in Telangana is shaking up the state, demanding equity and representation in a system critics say has marginalized them for decades. 1.  The Slogans Driving the Fight “ Hissa, Izzat, Hukumat ” (Share, Dignity, Power) encapsulate the BC movement’s core demands. Led by T. Chiranjivulu, IAS (Retd), the BC Intellectuals Forum is rallying for quotas, self-respect, and political authority. 2. A Stark Economic Divide India’s the world’s fifth-largest economy, yet the average citizen earns just 30,000-40,000 rupees ($360-$480) annually. Wealth concentrates among a few, leaving BCs, SCs, and STs struggling for basic survival. 3. Even though India is the fifth-largest economy in the world today, the annual per capita income of the common person does not exceed 30,000 to 40,000 rupees. All the wealth is concentrated in the hands of a few. The lives of BCs, SCs, and STs have become unbearable due to the lack of food to eat. 7% of Indians own passports . However, only 1% of Indians take international travel. The total luxury cars (like Mercedes Benz, BMW and so on) owners in India is estimated to be around half a million. Yes 0.5 million or 5 lakhs. Just 0.03% of the population . This is significantly low when compared to other Asian countries like Thailand, where the ownership rate is 5% . Do you know that 53% of Thais own a car while it is only 7% in India. “On 22 December 2023, at least 26 men from the predominantly Muslim Gujjar community were picked up from several villages in Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir and taken to three different army posts, where they were severely tortured. From witness accounts collected during our investigation of the incident that was published in the February 2024 issue of The Caravan, contributing writer Jatinder Kaur Tur found, the army mercilessly beat some of the men with wooden rods and metal pipes and put chilli powder put into their eyes and rectums, and drowned and electrocuted others. Muthukrishnan  Large states with above $4000 percapita, for the last financial year: Telangana $4687 Karnataka $4385 Haryana $4313 Tamil Nadu $4212 All the above states would cross $5000 GDP percapita latest by 2026. These states are capable of coming out of low or middle income trap and reach the threshold of advanced economies, around $13,000 percapita within next 10 years. But all these states need to grow at a nominal GDP growth rate of 12% to 14% to make it happen. Not an easy task.  Not that a Gujarat or Maharashtra cannot do it. In all likelihood, these two states are equally capable. For now, their percapita is lesser than $4000. Gujarat GDP growth rate is decent. But Maharashtra is struggling. It's nominal growth rate of current year is pegged at meagre 5.5%.  These 6 states - Telangana, Karnataka, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Gujarat looks like reaching the levels of advanced economies.  Added to this six - two more have potential ...
